Role
UX Design, Prototyping, User Research
Problem
Support a diverse set of users with a wide range of technology and mobile experiences. The app needed to be simple and support the users’ tasks goals:
• Simple to set-up
• Quick access to the lunch menu
• Easily track kid’s favorite school meals
• Check & add funds in one simple step
• Alerts when the balance is low
• Auto replenish funds
• Easy to learn
• Easy, clear and straightforward navigation
Discovery
Personas were used to create journey maps to build empathy for the users, site maps were created to understand the scope of the app better, and wireframes to work through the best way to support the user's interactions. These activities helped to streamline interactions and simplify the number of screens needed.

Interaction Design
The interaction was kept simple, and gestures were limited to taps for navigating between screens. Animations were used to reinforce screen transitions. Screens were removed to reduced complexity to support novice users and to reduce the time to complete tasks. The home screen was designed to give users a quick overview of each child’s balance, which provided only the information needed to determine if additional actions are required.
Infrequent tasks, like “Adding a Payment Method” and “Changing Passwords,” are tucked away to reduce complexity.
